Washburn Eagle
Washburn Eagle
The differences between a Falcon and an Eagle are subtle. The Eagle has a “contoured back” (i.e. a belly cut recess for extra comfort), “custom bound and inlaid” body and headstock (i.e. making it more ornate than a Falcon), and metal knobs and switch tip versus plastic. The black and ivory Eagles have bird shaped inlays versus brass ring fretboard markers in the rosewood, maple, and cherry sunburst colors. Black and ivory are solid colors while the other are transparent. Falcons and Eagles share the same electronics (“Power Sustain” humbucking pickups with push/pull coil taps), ebony fretboard, and brass bridge saddles and nut. The necks are also the same - 5 piece made of rosewood and rock maple. Depending on the body finish, Eagles can have either gold (brass) or silver (chrome) input jacks, knobs, tuners, strap pins, and bridge base plates. Falcons from the same time period always had silver (chrome) hardware.
Nancy Wilson of Heart was part of a Washburn ad campaign in the early 1980s, which featured an Ivory Eagle (see below).
Eagles made from 1979-81 were made by Yamaki (commonly called Model B generation), while 1982-84 Eagles were made my Matsumoku.
