POWER SERIES Mark XXX-B

This is a model we didn’t know existed - until we found this example for sale in Italy. If you look at the January 1984 price list from MCI pictured below, a guitar version of the Mark XXX is listed, but there is not a corresponding bass model. Surprise!

Having sampled both a guitar and bass version of a Mark XXX, there is no noticeable performance difference compared to a Mark XX. Perhaps this is why in 1984 a Mark XX guitar is listed at the same price as a Mark XXX at $799. This makes sense as the the core construction (neck through and string through, brass saddles and nut, and electronics) are the same. It’s really just a color and aesthetic change. Our guess is that Daion was trying to bring the PowerSeries up-to-date with the design motif of the times.
